Choosing an AI receptionist in the US

Three things to check with any provider before you sign up.

Privacy and call recording

AI receptionists record or transcribe calls and store callers' details. Call recording consent rules vary by state, and some states require every party's consent, so tell callers if calls are recorded. Ask each provider where recordings and transcripts are stored and how long they're kept. If HIPAA applies to you, ask whether the provider will sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA).

US phone numbers

Check whether you get a local number or a toll-free number (such as 800, 888 or 877). To keep your existing number, ask whether the provider can port it in, and out again if you leave. Number porting is governed by FCC rules.

Prices and sales tax

Every US price here is in US dollars (USD), copied from the provider's own pricing page. Of the 34 providers listed, 3 say tax is extra and 31 don't say, shown as Unknown. Sales tax on software and telecom services varies by state.

Every price, allowance and trial is copied from the provider's own pricing page, with the date we checked it.

Unknown means unknown

If a provider doesn't publish a figure, we say so. We never estimate a provider's price or award stars.

Payment never changes facts

Listings are free. Paid Verified and Featured placements are always labelled, and never change the prices we show.

Independent and transparent. Listings are free and ordered alphabetically by default. Providers can pay for a verified badge or a clearly labelled Featured spot; payment never changes the prices or facts we show. How we make money.
